The Cluster of Excellence “Transforming Human Rights”, funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG), will investigate the transformation of human rights in light of five interrelated global megatrends: 1) Autocratization, 2) Fragmented economic globalization, 3) International migration, 4) Planetary environmental crises, and 5) Digitalization.

Professor Almut Schilling-Vacaflor is one of the Principal Investigators (PIs) of the Cluster of Excellence, alongside 24 other professors from the universities of Erlangen-Nuremberg, Oxford, Buenos Aires, Vienna, Bayreuth and the German Institute for Human Rights. Prof. Schilling-Vacaflor’s research will focus on human rights protection in the context of fragmented economic globalisation, as well as rights-based approaches to enhancing just sustainability and transforming planetary environmental crises. She will also co-lead the Cluster’s Research Innovation Hub, which aims to support the development of interdisciplinary theories and methodological innovations within the Cluster.
