From November 3 to 5, Miguel Vargas Delgado, Director of the Center for Legal and Social Studies (CEJIS – Bolivia), visited Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nuremberg (FAU). His visit included a range of academic activities that promoted knowledge exchange and strengthened collaboration between the Chair of International Business, Society and Sustainability (IBSS), the Center for Human Rights Erlangen-Nuremberg (CHREN), and CEJIS.

A highlight of the visit was the roundtable discussion “Territorios, sostenibilidad y soberanía: desafíos de América Latina en el nuevo orden global”, held on November 3. The event examined the challenges faced by Indigenous territories and local communities in Latin America amid global transformations, fostering critical reflection on sustainability, sovereignty, and corporate responsibility through conversations on strategic resources, due diligence frameworks, and energy transition processes. The session featured Mr. Vargas Delgado, who explored how rare earth elements and technological metals impact Indigenous territories in Bolivia; Dr. Julia Stefanello Pires (IBSS), who discussed the evolving landscape of environmental and human rights due diligence standards and their implications in Latin America; and Júlia de Sousa e Berruezo, M.A. (IBSS), who presented a case study on energy transition and corporate responsibility through the Cerrado solar project in Brazil.

Throughout his stay, Mr. Vargas Delgado also met with researchers from IBSS, CHREN, and other FAU colleagues to share ongoing projects and explore opportunities for future collaboration.
