We are glad to welcome our new PhD researcher Sacha Feierabend to our chair. Sacha joined the International Doctoral Programme on Business and Human Rights at Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU) and the Chair of International Business, Society and Sustainability in November 2025.
He holds a Master’s degree in Human Rights and Humanitarian Action from Sciences Po Paris and a Bachelor’s degree in International Political Science from Université Paris-Est Créteil (France). Sacha will pursue his PhD under a co-tutelle agreement with the International Institute of Social Studies (ISS) at Erasmus University Rotterdam.
His doctoral research integrates perspectives from political ecology, global production network studies, and business and human rights to examine the socio-environmental challenges associated with lithium-ion battery production. His PhD project involves multi-sited fieldwork across various geographies linked to battery and electric vehicle production and consumption—from lithium extraction sites in South America to battery assembly plants, consumption markets, and corporate headquarters in Europe.
Sacha brings seven years of experience as a researcher and advocate with civil society organizations, where he worked on the human rights impacts of extractive industries, business and human rights regulation, and participatory human rights documentation initiatives.
Welcome to the team, Sacha!
